The Kidney Centre

The Kidney Centre (TKC) is a not-for-profit specialized hospital providing quality care to patients suffering from kidney disease. ASA has been associated with TKC since it started functioning in 1985 with a small dialysis unit consisting of just two machines but built with the provision of 100 beds. The group of philanthropists who raised funds for The Kidney Centre spearheaded fundraising in Pakistan. Those were the early days when relatively stable socio-economic conditions meant communities were both able and driven to raise money for a good cause. Walking for a cause was initiated in Pakistan with Shaukat Mirza, who was then head of Engro. The hospital was built on simple, strong, and clean lines. It is continually upgraded by ASA even today. Elements such as the handmade blue glazed tiles used along the counters have been left in place as they seamlessly stand the test of time. While the interior and exterior white walls exude a spirit of purity, the spaces they enclose remain airy. The recently introduced bright yellow and lime green spots of color add warmth to the environment.
